flydubai signs $24 billion deal for 150 Airbus A321neos at Dubai Airshow
New MoU to support Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and growth vision
DUBAI – flydubai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for the purchase of 150 A321neo aircraft, solidifying its position as one of the region’s fastest-growing carriers.
The agreement, valued at US$ 24 billion, marks flydubai’s first order with Airbus, expanding its narrow-body fleet and strengthening its long-term growth strategy. The delivery of the aircraft is scheduled to commence from 2031.
The signing took place on the second day of the Dubai Airshow 2025 and was witnessed by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, and Christian Scherer, CEO Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, alongside Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai.

The firm order includes 150 aircraft with options for 100 additional jets, showcasing strong confidence in Dubai’s aviation ambitions and growth development framework.
Strategic expansion
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said the agreement aligns with the vision of Dubai Ruler His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. He emphasised that the aircraft acquisition will contribute to the expansion of Dubai World Central, aimed to become the world’s largest airport.

The A321neo aircraft will enable the carrier to serve new markets with greater efficiency while enhancing its operational capabilities.
Fleet diversification
This move marks a significant milestone for flydubai, adding Airbus aircraft to its traditionally Boeing-based fleet. The A321neo, part of the A320neo Family, brings advanced technologies including new generation engines, Sharklets and cabin efficiency enhancements. These features deliver more than 20% reduction in CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption compared to previous single-aisle aircraft.
Network growth
Christian Scherer, CEO Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, welcomed flydubai as a new customer, stating that the carrier’s decision reflects Airbus’ value proposition in range, efficiency and passenger comfort. The A321neo will support flydubai’s next phase of network expansion, enabling the airline to introduce new routes with improved sustainability.
flydubai currently operates to more than 135 destinations across 57 countries, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global aviation hub.
